Last week on the Oprah Winfrey Network, they aired a special called, “Commander in Heels.” What I wouldn’t do for them to turn this into a series. It was great reality TV for a business woman. We got to take a look inside one week of Dylan Lauren (Dylan’s Candy Bar) and Leslie Blodgett (Bare Escentuals) work lives. I have been to Dylan’s Candy Bar a few times at the Galleria Mall here in Houston. You all know I’m obsessed with sweets so of course, I’ve been there. And I’ve been wearing Bare Minerals since college. Wow! I’ve been a loyal customer for almost 7 or 8 years. So just the thought of watching these two powerful women who run amazing businesses work for a week, was pure excitement for me. I even missed the documentary on MSNBC about President Obama to watch it, lol. I wanted to see for myself how they managed hectic schedules. So what did I learn from these ladies….
Well, Leslie mentioned how important networking is when you are starting out. This is your opportunity to meet, connect and build relationships that will be beneficial for your business (my interpretation of her words.) I completely agree with Leslie. The initial contact you make is just for you to put a face and name together. You must continual keep in touch with people you feel you want to do business with. Trust me I know. I have several people who stay in touch with me because they want Women Are Gamechangers to partner with them. And I did state in a video about only saying “Yes” to projects that align with your company’s goals and mission. So fortunately for these people their projects do line up with my goals and mission. So I just need to make time for them. Also in our weekly newsletter, I share more indepth about truly conneting and relationship building. I only share those tips with newsletter subscribers only. So sign up for that today. (yes, shameless plug here).
Dylan didn’t really show many lessons on how to connect with someone but I did take one thing away from her. She stated that she knew what she loved early on in life. I learned from Dylan that knowing who you are as a person and implementing that into your business will only lead to success. Once you connect with your authentic core, you will be able to translate that to what is necessary for your business to succeed. I know I have always been good at connecting people to what they need but can’t see or find for themselves. But I never imagined I could create a business doing that. Well imagination and creativity combined with business savvy created Women Are Gamechangers. So I’m doing what I love. I love helping people and this is a great way to see women not struggling trying to make things work if I know how to make it easier for them. That’s what I love to do and do daily.
Don’t know if this will replay on OWN. Hope it does. And hope it becomes a full fledged series.
I challenge you to connect to your passion and see where it leads you.
