Is Olivia Pope the Epitome of a Strong Woman Entrepreneur?

I had to ask myself that question again. I really didn’t hear about the show until right before it came on. I’ve watched from the very first episode and have not missed since. I am enthralled with how smart and strategic Olivia Pope operates both in her business and outside. Well until President Grant got inside her head. That’s a different blog post for a different blog.
Olivia or Liv what Twitter refers to her as is one of the most powerful women in the most powerful city in the world. Well at least on TV she is. But that got me to think about what a real Olivia Pope would do. Not Judy Smith who the character is based on but if we truly had women like Olivia running the shots alongside the most powerful man in the world. Don’t get me wrong. I know we have women leading the charge and even countries but none seem to own the same type of strength seen in Liv’s character.
Rarely will anything frazzle her from staying the course of getting the job done. And getting the job done well. When she speaks everyone listens. Who else can walk into the White House and command the attention of everyone listening to her voice? Not many.
Back to the question. Yes, I do think Liv is the epitome of a strong women entrepreneur. She runs her own company. She takes the clients she chooses. People come to her. She doesn’t have to seek out clients like most of us do in the real world. Olivia Pope owns her intelligence and with pride. Many women hide theirs for fear that they are smarter than their male counterparts. Sorry to burst anyone’s bubble but most often, we are. Let’s just be real on that one.
Why am I so mesmerized by Liv? Well honestly there aren’t many women who look like me running Fortune 500 Companies other than Ursula Burns. And we all know she’s one of my top 5 celebrity (she’s a celebrity to me) gamechangers. Liv is everything to people like me who are more serious minded and didn’t care to be a girl who hid her greatness. Liv owns hers. As do I. But she allows for smart girls like myself and you who are reading to finally have someone to cheer for on a weekly basis to conquer the world.
She may not be real but she is really making a difference. Now that Olivia is on our TV screens every week (well when ABC programming brain functions right and puts it there) I want to see more women like her emerging from the dark. She shows that yes, America connects with someone like her. So now it’s our time to step up and follow suit.
I challenge every person who reads this post, to show the world your gifts. Trust me. We’re waiting to see it.
Do you agree with my reasoning about Liv? Why or why not?
