It isn’t exactly a new idea, but a holistic approach to beauty is catching on all over the country. The shift in thinking can be called common sense in retrospect, but it represents a revolution in the way both women and men understand personal beauty. The idea behind it all is that the best way to achieve personal beauty is by living a healthy lifestyle. While this doesn’t exclude using beauty products, it does extend the thinking into new realms of personal care.
Obviously, this beauty trend is closely linked with a movement over the last two decades toward health and fitness. Thanks to a knowledgeable population, a surge in alternative health care, and a wealth of healthy product options, healthy living has become one of the fastest growing consumer sectors in the US. The makeup and hair industries cannot help but take notice, and have already drastically shifted their pitch. How many products these days advertise using leafy green logos and a focus on natural products to get our attention?
Beyond these traditional industries, the public is searching in other areas for beauty secrets. Everywhere in the US, yoga, massage, and fitness classes are immensely popular. People have found that by reducing stress and staying in touch with their bodies, they maintain a more attractive appearance naturally. The number of yoga studios all across the country has shot up recently not just because people want to feel better, but because they want to look better, too.
Likewise, the quest for personal beauty is a motivating factor behind the trend in healthy eating. While in the past people were concerned primarily with fat and calories, now the shopping public is wary of unnatural chemicals and additives. By taking a holistic approach to beauty, they understand that internal health automatically increases external attractiveness.
While not everyone subscribes to this philosophy, it would be hard to find anyone who didn’t give it credit. It is hard to deny that eating right and exercising will tend to make you look better. I don’t know about you, but I would say that my friends who do yoga and shop at the health food store look better than my friends without such healthy habits. They have a rosy-cheeked inner-glow that can’t really be had out of a bottle.
However popular this beauty trend gets, it will certainly never completely replace the search for beauty from a bottle. People will always yearn for instant solutions, and industry will be happy to sell it to them. Regardless, the commitment that many people are showing toward personal beauty through healthier living seems to indicate that this trend is going to be around for a while.
