Age catches up with everyone and if you are someone who has kept your exercise on the back burner or not been consistent enough, then it’s time to take stock of the situation. More so, if you are a man and find you at wits end on how to improve your overall health status. It is never too late as you can begin to do some work-outs steadily until you are fairly comfortable with the routine. Just because you exercised when you were in your teens does not mean that it will extend its benefits even when you are 40 plus. You need to know a few basics about exercise regime for grownups to help you live a healthier life.
Assess your health first
Making sure that you are healthy enough to begin a fitness routine is an important factor. Check with your doctor first, especially if you have a medical history of heart disease, joint pains or taking medication for blood pressure. Doing exercises in such condition can make you feel dizzy and might even lead to severe problems. If you have no such conditions there is no reason why you cannot work up gradually and steadily. You will also need to know what type of exercise is best for you.
Our bodies undergo several changes as we age, such as weakened tendons and muscles, bones and less coordination between our muscles and brains which can affect our balance. Therefore, you will need to do cardio exercises several times a week for at least 30 minutes to keep the balance and strengthen you for other exercises.
Get comfortable and do the right activities
Now, if you are comfortable doing runs or even going on brisk walk, then do so but start up slowly and be comfortable in the clothes and shoes you use. If you prefer riding your bike then that is also absolutely acceptable. Join a group of likeminded people who are enthusiastic about the activities that you prefer. If you are not comfortable with running, doing gym work outs or even biking, then why not to join a dance class which may fit you better.
Work gradually and vary yourself
Start off your exercise with simple plans that will not have a drastic effect upon you. You could start with walking and graduating into running and biking later on. Always start off with a warm up first before you proceed as it helps to tune your body up for the coming activity.
Once you are habituated to your simple plan, then you can vary your exercises so that your body does not get stuck in one rut. If you have been lifting small weighs then increase the weighs and so forth. Likewise, if you have been running at a certain pace, then try speeding up.
Prioritize and be consistent
Once you decide to start on a fitness program, you need to be consistent as much as you need to give it priority. Make up the next day for any session that you missed due to workload but do not put it off. Treat your exercise regime like you do other activities in life, like eating your breakfast daily or listening daily to the evening news.
Daily exercise regime will not only tone up your body but will have a truly beneficial effect about every aspect of your life. You will find you sleeping better, functioning better, feel stronger and generally full of vitality and zest.
Do you have a fitness routine that you stick with? Is finding the right fitness routine challenging for you? What types of exercises works best for you?
