For many women this might be hard to understand. Everyone wants to be ‘beautiful’ but ‘beauty’ is just an opinion.
What is beauty?
According to different societies beauty can be perceived in many different forms. Who is to say tall, skinny, long hair women are beautiful (not saying that they’re not) but that is just one opinion. If you notice, beauty is a Westernised point of view. Celebrities, models, fashion moguls, they all have a contribution on how people, especially women, perceive beauty. A lot of women aspire to be like the women we see on television and films because we are told by the media that this is how a ‘woman’ is meant to look like. If you look at news reports that come from the US and here in the UK, there is thousands of articles on women, especially young girls, fighting against bulimia, anorexia and bullying because of this perception of beauty and how women are meant to look like! All these points seem to be the negative side of beauty, so why not look at the positive side?
It is said that the Westernised world is perceived as a male dominated world as opposed to the East (The Orient) which is perceived as ‘female’ according to some reports. Seeing as females are categorised as being ‘beautiful’, shouldn’t beauty not also be defined through culture, language and the society you live in instead of make-up, hairstyles and fake tan?
Women and Culture
Culture in itself is a beautiful thing. Whether you come from Thailand, Greece or South Africa, you will always find something beautiful and unique about these countries, for example, the language. Being able to speak or understand more than one language is a beautiful thing. Language is beautiful! Shouldn’t women focus on learning a new language instead of learning how to put on fake hair and eyelashes?
The people are also a very important aspect of making up a culture. Without the traditions which people set, there wouldn’t be a difference between one country and another. The ‘beauty’ and uniqueness of a country would be taken away without the people. It is fair to say that women play an important role in making a place beautiful!
All in all, the beauty industry is huge and will always be a dominant one. It will be around for many years to come but what women need to remember is that ‘beauty’ is not defined by what shade of lipstick you wear but how to create a beautiful moment in life. Women shouldn’t just focus on the physical aspect of ‘beauty’, but also on the more meaningful side of it!
Everyone is beautiful in their own way.
