I Finally Connected with Marshawn Evans at her Launch Your Dreams Tour.

So this past weekend I finally got to meet one of the business women I have been following online for a while now. I have looked to Marshawn as someone who I wanted to meet and connect with. To me she is the epitome of what a serious business woman should strive towards. Her grace, determination, insight and most importantly her Faith in God has propelled her to heights many women twice her age has yet to attain. But what really stuck with me is how she actually read every dream audit and knew who we were before we arrived. Now that’s empowering women to me. She knows who we are to give us better insight that will personally propel us in business. To me that says she truly cares that we took time out of our schedules to spend a Saturday afternoon learning and having many aha moments with her. So what did I get out of this. Well…

When I say I felt I was hit upside my head many times, that is an understatement. I had more than my fair share of aha moments. But that 5 hour drive there and 5 hour drive back to Houston from Dallas was well worth the numbness my behind felt.

So when I entered the venue, I didn’t expect the line to be so long. To me that showed many women and a few men are as serious as I am about improving themselves so they can improve their business. And it was sweet that her mother was the lady at the sign in table. That just goes to show that Marshawn’s family supports what she is doing. Not many women I’ve met say they have that support so it is refreshing to see it personally. Fortunately, if you read this blog, you know my sister and I have family support and we support each other’s endeavors.

I turned the corner after getting my name badge and was shocked how full the room where we had to wait was. Everyone was socializing and patiently waiting. I did exactly what I read from another blog about networking. I just stayed still. And someone came up to me. Another person who drove from the Houston area might I add. We talked and I talked to the lady who was by us. Networking is truly easier when you are not forcing yourself to work the room.

The doors opened and it took me a minute to find where I wanted to sit. I finally made my selection and lo and behold a few people asked to sit next to me. We all talked throughout the breaks. I met some really nice ladies that day.

Marshawn entered and made her introduction. She asked who traveled the farthest and I thought it was just the lady I met in the lobby and myself. Well the lady next to me came from Waco, TX, a few came from San Antonio, TX, 2 ladies drove from Kansas City and one lady flew all the way from Augusta, GA. Now you have to admit we were all committed if we took the time to make that trek to Dallas.

Now I don’t want to share the explicit details of what she shared with us. Why? Because you should have been there. That’s all I’m saying. It was something you had to experience first-hand. But I will share 3 takeaways from the launch your dreams tour  we can all use in our business.

  • “Your message is what your audience responds to.”- That hit me like a ton of bricks. Now I’m going through a marketing bootcamp right now. I’m on week 4. And what I’ve been learning in the bootcamp and what Marshawn said finally made sense to me. I should not be forcing my message on anyone. Lesson learned the hard way.
  • “Your voice is the foundation of your brand.”- Once you find your authentic voice in your business it will be easier for people to see the value and want to be a part of your brand in some way. At least, that’s what I took away from that statement.
  • “Favor attaches to action.”- Now this is something I’ve been doing. Taking steps everyday to move my company forward. But you do need to watch the steps you take. Not everything you do is worthy of being called actionable. Sometimes we are just busy doing nothing and lost an entire day because of it.

There are many more aha moments I wrote down. I took pages of notes but again like I said, you had to be there. Meeting someone who inspired me was uplifting and the boost I need to keep going. I’ve had many challenging days but the breath of fresh air I engulfed while attending the Launch Your Dreams Tour was what I needed to inhale.

And she signed my book. Not only is my personal library expanding but slowly I’m getting my books signed by the authors, too. Yes I’m a nerd like that, lol. It is a goal of mine to have every book I can signed by the author.

My next big goal associated with Marshawn Evans is to attend ME University Branding Bootcamp. I will do what it takes to have my finances in order for 2013.

Have you ever met someone who inspired you and they actually lived up to the hype in your head?

Meaning they did not disappoint the ideal you had of them. Comment below.
