I wanted to find out more about her. I love what she does to teach people how to get into Ivy leagues. So we met at the Black Social Media Summit. Remember my reason for attending events? I aim to meet one person. Well she was one of the two people I wanted to meet while there. I did that and here’s the interview from Kaniesha of Be Your Own Boyfriend. Hello, Please tell us briefly who you are and what you do. Hi everyone! I’m Kaneisha Grayson. I’m an author, coach, and workshop leader. I work with 20- and 30-somethings around the world to achieve their personal and professional dreams through my writing, coaching, and workshops. My main coaching offering is admissions consulting for people who want to apply to MBA & Policy graduate programs, especially Harvard, which is my alma mater for both degrees.

Ms. Gamechanger Knows is a show on the Urban Houston Network that focuses on women entrepreneurs in Houston that have or building global businesses. It airs Thursday evenings at 7p CST during summer 2013. I interviewed women I have built business relationships with in one way or another. You get to learn more about who the woman behind the brand is and how she built her business. Ms. Gamechanger Knows was created as an extension of this blog. I wanted to showcase women I knew, give them a platform to reach a broader audience and balance the images of young African American women in the media. Instead of complaining about what I didn’t like seeing on TV, I created what I wanted to see. Seeing how I’ve wanted to be on TV since I was 12, this was the perfect opportunity and timing. Now is the time to push a more positive agenda. I know the Gamechanger community is craving for that. I was thrilled to have a full room at my viewing event this past Sunday. It’s nice to see friends from college as well as those who I’ve met since starting WAGC. What was most exciting was the fact that a [...]

The post Ms. Gamechanger Knows Viewing Event appeared first on Women Are Gamechangers.

Well last month I tweeted I was in Austin for the Black Social Media Summit and she tweeted me back asking was I in Austin. I forgot she lived there. Anyway an exchange of tweets led us to a phone conversation when I got back to Houston. It was great chatting with her. I know she helps people discover their purpose but now Michelle is taking it up a notch and helping people to rock your destiny. We chatted for a minute and by the end of the conversation, I was asking if she would be interviewed for the blog. So here it is. My interview with Michelle Casto of Rock Your Destiny… It’s no longer just a luxury to live life authentically, it is an imperative to honor what’s true for our heart level and make the courageous choices that bring us into alignment with our soul’s Destiny. —Michelle L.

This past Saturday I attended the Me & We Inc Mother’s Day Brunch that was part of the Redefined Tour by Sophia A. Nelson. You know me. I always have a plan. I bought my tickets months ago. I read the book Black Woman Redefined and was just amazed how someone could take data and make it flow into a relateable story. Sophia A. Nelson (and I told her this) did a great job combining data and a narrative. Not everyone can. Back to my plan. My networking strategy is the reason I can get opportunities to advance my company’s current status. I bought my ticket and later was given the opportunity to host my own TV show on the Urban Houston Network. I thought why not ask Sophia if she would be a guest. The worst I could get was a ‘NO’, right? Well I sent her a tweet asking who to contact for an interview. She gave me the contact people. I immediately emailed them. That was the beginning. Well I did get to interview her for my show. I’ll talk about that later. Let’s get to the actual event now. I have 3 questions that must get a ‘YES’ [...]

The post Sophia A. These are some great writing tips to help you keep up with all of the writing you have to do for your business. As a business owner, many writing tasks must happen to keep your business alive and thriving – whether you are traveling or not. From fresh blog posts, to newsletters and email marketing campaigns, and even your engaging social media posts, the writing needs to happen, even if you are away on vacation! I recently traveled for 7 days to visit family who live about 1000 miles away. It meant a couple of taxi rides, two long flights with layovers, and several hours in a car to the final destination. For 4 days I had no internet connection! Knowing that I had much writing to do while away, I planned ahead so that it could all get done for my business. I’d like to share some travel tips with you for getting your business writing done while on vacation. Automate as much of the writing as you can before you leave [...]

The post Guest Post~ Savvy Writing Tips For When You Travel appeared first on Women Are Gamechangers.

It can be seen on the Urban Houston Network channel 43.5. I originally came to the studio to speak about advertising on the Just Angie show. We began to speak about the network, my blog and social media. Of course, I overshare always and gave many suggestions. But it always opens doors. We chatted until the President of the network came back to the office. Angie caught him up on what we discussed. He took a look at my YouTube channel and was impressed. He suggested I be a guest on Angie’s show. I thought it would be a good idea to see if I was comfortable on camera. Who am I kidding? LOL.

Viola Davis speaks at TSU and blew me away with her honesty and transparency when it came to life, love, acting and growing up in abject poverty. Last Tuesday I had the opportunity to attend a private reception and event for Viola Davis at Texas Southern University. When I say she spoke the truth about love, life and acting I’m so serious. I will share later in this post more what what she said that has stayed with me to this day. The private reception was really nice. The library on the campus of TSU is beyond extraordinary. I was in love with the room dedicated to Barbara Jordan as well as a room dedicated to works of art from the African diaspora. Who wouldn’t like a library like that? Just breath taking. Anyway, I attended alone like I do most events. This is the best way to meet new people and not a have a crutch to lean on. Attending events with people you know cripples your ability to have a conversation with someone new. At the reception which was 1.5 hours (it was too long for me) I mixed and mingled with people. I met some people I knew from Twitter finally in [...]

The post Viola Davis Speaks Truth, Love and Life at TSU appeared first on Women Are Gamechangers.

I currently travel more for business than I do pleasure but no matter whether I’m traveling for a conference, meeting, family reunion, or fun in the sun I almost always find ways to mix things up a bit. In the past two years I have had the pleasure of traveling to Florida, Tennessee, the District of Columbia, Texas, Canada and several parts of California; in addition to two trips over seas to Ireland, and South Africa. Here are my top 3 ways to mix business and pleasure when traveling. Travel tips for Entrepreneurs Get Creative With Layovers: Most people prefer direct flights and dread layovers. Oddly, I am one of those people. However, I have found that layovers can be an adventure all of their own. When making travel arrangements look at what cities (or countries) you can choose from when having to book a layover. Once you have found a city that tickles your fancy select a layover duration greater than 4 hours. I always account for an [...]

The post Guest Post~ Mixing Business and Pleasure: 3 Tips to Maximize Travel for Entrepreneurs appeared first on Women Are Gamechangers.

Are You Networking in a Circle? When I first started attending networking events, I knew absolutely no one. Then I started seeing the same people over and over again attending certain types of events. Eventually I learned they were not my target and I was not going to grow any type of relationship for them. {video below} Ideal Networking Environment Number 1 they only cared about the sale and I didn’t care to buy what they were selling. So according to them we really didn’t have anything to speak about. That bothered me. Then I open my mind up to going into new enviroments. And the doors have definitely opened themselves up to me because of this change of environments. Follow Networking Strategy Do I still see the save people? Yes. But I am no longer concerend with forcing a relationship with them. I am more concerned with following the strategy I have in my new eBook ‘How To Make Strong Gamechanger Connections‘. Utilizing this strategy has helped me focus my energies on people I’m more compatible with. Sometimes you just outgrow the people you started with. That’s ok. No need to stay on the hamster wheel. Get off and branch out.
