As a business owner, you should not be in an isolated state. There is too much to know, learn and do all by yourself. I thought working from home would be something I could do by myself. I had worked 10 years with other people and didn’t care too much for office politics. Office politics is not my cup of tea and I didn’t care to try to fit “in” a box that was never intended for me in the beginning. When I would attend events or conferences in the beginning of Women Are Gamechangers I would often times go alone. In reality, that was the best thing I could do. I started to meet people. That’s when my eyes were opened up and I saw how desperately needed were ways to truly connect women together. We as women often take on the superwoman complex and try to do it all. Well isn’t it tiring to do that? I know I got worn out from being everything to everyone but myself. Slowly over the past year, I’ve been able to meet literally hundreds of new people, make great business relationships and have a few strong connections that will literally take my company further because of it.
So I ask you, have you found your mastermind group? You may ask, what is that? Well simply just means a group of people who will keep you accountable, tell you the truth and help you make your business what it can be. I am forming mine as we speak. There are several women I can call and speak with who will help me through a situation. For that, I am truly grateful. That let me know that going at things alone even though I work from home is NOT smart business.
One thing I have learned and I take this from being an educator. As an educator for 4 years, I received over 350 hours of professional development. I don’t think anyone ever goes beyond the required 45 hours per year to tell you the truth. I, on the other hand, knew that learning what others did successfully would only translate to success in my classroom. And it did. So as a business owner, I attend at least once a week some type of online or offline training. I have to. Business changes daily. The only way to stay current and up to date is to constantly challenge your mind to stay fresh.
Where did biztacular minds come from? It came from a workshop I attended yesterday. Funny how I knew half of the people in the room even the host and some of the speakers either through social media, my blog or in person. So do I feel that they could be in my mastermind group. Absolutely. If they as business owners took time out of their day to attend an all day workshop so they could continue to sustain their business, why would I not want to be associated with them? Besides the name just sounds so cool. Everyone wants their business to be spectacular, right? Or at least I do.
Well if you are like me and work from home or just started a business, leave your home. Get out. Meet new people. Make connections. If you need help, attend Fusion. I’m really good at helping put the right people together. You have to find your mastermind group. Create one. Just know that being in business does not mean you have to do it alone.
I will always help if I can but remember I run a business too. I can’t give my services away. But if you read the blog or subscribe to my newsletter, you will get useful information or resources to help you get started.
Who’s in your mastermind group?
