Some of my friends from high school. I really did miss these girls.

I’m not going to lie. I wasn’t really looking forward to attending my 10 year high school reunion. Honestly, high school wasn’t that enjoyable for me. Then my extremely blunt mother pointed out that I was in self-imposed isolation in high school ie wanted to be a loner. I guess she is somewhat right.

But the main reason I was hesitant to attend my 10 year high school reunion was the fact that I do not feel after 10 years I am where I want to be. Don’t get me wrong. I love my life and it’s exciting but I felt in 10 years I should be in a much better place. Thus the reason I think many people did not attend. Now I know that was a silly notion. No one CARES! People just want to catch up with who you have grown to become. So what did I learn at my 10 year high school reunion to share with you…

  • People want to catch up not pry into your life. No one is trying to go deep into your personal life after 10 years.

  • Accept where you are in life and not let that prohibit you from connecting with people. 99 times out of 100 everyone feels some uneasiness about what others perceive about where they are in their life.

  • Be bold and say, “HI.” Everyone is nervous so just be the first one to break the ice.

  • Actually re-connect with your friends from high school. Take some time during the reunion to actually catch up (if you haven’t already done so in the past 10 years).

  • 10 years go by sooooo fast. Enjoy the ride and experience. You’ll never get that time back in your life.

If you’ve attended or will attend your 10 year reunion, what hesitations did you have about seeing your classmates after 10 years?
